Each year the local Fourth of July fireworks display is set off from Mira
Mesa High School fields and enjoyed by many who gather at locations such as Mira
Mesa Community Park or at Miramar Lake in Scripps Ranch. This year's fireworks
display costs $19,600, an amount raised by the Mira Mesa Community Fourth of July
Committee and its sister nonprofit group, Scripps Mesa Fireworks, Inc.,
completely through donations and fundraisers. The City now charges a fee of
approximately $3,500. The Fourth of July Committee must also raise approximately
$4,000 to cover the annual expenses of hosting the Mira Mesa Fourth of July
parade.

There were reports of Fourth of July celebrations being cancelled at several locations around San Diego for lack of funds. In Mira Mesa, we had a full Fourth of July celebration this year starting with a pancake breakfast at the Epicenter teen center, followed by a parade down Mira Mesa Blvd, an expanded fun day in the park celebration after the parade, and fireworks at 9:00 PM set off from Mira Mesa High School. This article by Pam Stevens has a complete description of Fourth of July activities. Doug Dillard of MiraMesa.com has posted a video of the 2008 Fireworks finale.
Music for Fun Day was provided by Strictly Rhythms Entertainment featuring Ray Pinnock AKA DJ Undaground.
To have a Fourth of July celebration in 2009 we will need to raise considerable money and need more volunteers, so please donate, encourage your friends, neighbors and relatives to donate, and volunteer!
