Meet the Candidates for School Board, County Supervisor, and State Assembly at MMTC Feb. 3
Mira Mesans are invited to meet candidates in the March 3 California primary election running for office in three important local races — School Board, County Supervisor, and State Assembly – at “Meet the Candidates” Night hosted by the Mira Mesa Town Council Monday, February 3, 2020, a special program in combination with the regular February MMTC meeting.
The program will start at 6:30pm in the community room at the Mira Mesa Branch Library, 8405 New Salem Street, San Diego CA 92126, featuring candidates for SDUSD Board District A, County Supervisor District 3, and State Assembly District 77.
All three candidates for SDUSD School Board District A – Sabrina Bazzo, Stephen (“Steph”) Groce, and Crystal Trull – are confirmed to attend. John Lee Evans, incumbent District A School Board member, is not running for re-election. District A includes Mira Mesa, University City, and Clairemont.

From 6:30 to 7pm MMTC is hosting an informal “Meet & Greet” when candidates and/or reps from their campaigns can interact with community members, hand out literature, etc. There will be refreshments!
The formal MMTC meeting will start at 7pm, with reports from first responders (police and/or fire) the first item of business as usual.
About 7:15pm the “Meet the Candidates” main program will begin, when the candidates in the three races – School Board, County Supervisor, and State Assembly – will introduce themselves. This will not be a debate or a question & answer session, just an opportunity for each of the candidates to talk about themselves, their qualifications, and their goals if elected, for no more than 5 minutes each. This “Meet the Candidates” program should take about 45 minutes.

In the election for San Diego County Supervisor, District 3, MMTC has invited incumbent Kristin Gaspar and her two challengers, Olga Diaz and Terra Lawson-Remer. Terra Lawson-Remer and Olga Diaz are confirmed to attend.
MMTC has also invited incumbent 77th District State Assemblymember Brian Maienschein and 77th State Assembly District candidate June Yang Cutter. June Yang Cutter is confirmed to attend.

Following the “Meet the Candidates” program, the regular MMTC meeting will continue from 8pm until its conclusion (approximately 9pm), including reports from MMTC committees and other community groups, elected officials’ representatives, any action items for MMTC members to vote on, and open forum. Open forum provides an opportunity for members and/or the public to comment (2 min each) on anything not on the agenda.
