At the September 16, 2019 meeting of the Mira Mesa Community Plan Advisory Committee, a consultant for the City of San Diego presented concepts for building high density (29 units/acre minimum) on all of the commercial shopping areas along Mira Mesa Blvd from Reagan Road to Interstate 15. The new development would be on areas currently used for surface parking or retail stores. The consultant presented 3 proposals for the “Mira Mesa Town Center” area, which includes the Mira Mesa Mall and Target shopping center, and the “Mira Mesa Gateway”, which includes the Market Center and extends west to Seafood City. The three options are called “Community Village,” “Urban Village,” and “Lifestyle Center”, each with differing levels of redevelopment. The Community Village and Urban Village would retain the major Anchor stores, while the Lifestyle Center would replace all of them. The images below are concept drawings for each option.
