On Saturday July 30, MMTC partnered with Park & Rec (Maria and Jerry) and Mayor Gloria’s office to celebrate Aiella Niles, the Sandburg student who was selected as winner of the “Mayor for a Day” contest. In her letter, Aiella mentioned wanting to meet with friends to talk about cleaning up litter in Mira Mesa, make posters to educate the community and eat pizza.

MMTC provided trash pickers, buckets and bags as Aiella and her classmates did a mini-clean up around the Mira Mesa Community Park. Maria and Jerry decorated the ping pong room and provided tables and art materials for the students to make anti-littering posters. These posters will be displayed on the bulletin boards of Mira Mesa parks next week, and will be returned to the students after they come down. MMTC also provided pizza and drinks for the students while they decorated. Mayor Gloria arrived and participated in the celebration, even making a poster to put up in Mira Mesa.
