The Mira Mesa Town Council is creating a comprehensive, community-wide Neighborhood Watch program.
The purpose of Neighborhood Watch is to enhance the safety and security of the Mira Mesa Community by enlisting the active participation of residents in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime, solve problems, and improve the quality of life in our community.
The San Diego Police Department has in past made presentations at MMTC meetings and to interested residents interested in starting Neighborhood Watch for their block. This Neighborhood Watch program seeks to unite all of our local Block Captains, create Area Coordinators to assist groups of Block Captains, and create a Steering Committee to work with SDPD to be sure that timely information is shared regarding local incidents and information regarding potential crimes or situations in the community reach SDPD.
We invite you to participate by:
a) Becoming a member of Neighborhood Watch. Receive emails and information about crime and safety in your neighborhood, and upcoming events.
b) Being a Block Captain. Act as liaison between block residents and Area Coordinator. Enlist the participation of residents to work with law enforcement to reduce crime. Teaches neighbors who to contact for suspicious activities, thefts, break-ins, graffiti, party houses, noise nuisances and more. Shares safety tips and information and shows them how to use websites such as crimemapping.com and nextdoor.com.
c) Being an Area Coordinator and part of the Steering Committee. Act as liaison between SDPD and Block Captains. Encourage participation and expansion of the program. Area Coordinators are part of the Steering Committee that works directly with SDPD, and other City and County agencies.
