A new park adjacent to Jonas Salk Elementary School and improvements to the existing Maddox Park are underway. Unfortunately, it is taking much longer than planned. Construction started in November 2022 and the banner posted on the fence by the park says that it will be done by Fall, 2024. Clearly, that has not happened as the site currently (September, 2025) is covered with large piles of dirt, as illustrated in the picture above.

As shown in the presentation below, the park will be very nice when completed. The new park will have restrooms, something that parents and grandparents with small children have been asking for for years. In addition to the new park at Salk, the Maddox Dog Park is being completely rebuilt and will have separate areas for small and large dogs. There will also be a new shade structure over the Maddox play area (a lawsuit over a copyright issue with the shade structure is one reason for the delay).

Progress reports are received every month and are archived on the Mira Mesa Recreation Council website https://miramesarecreationcouncil.org/park-project-status-update/. Below are the estimates of progress and completion date since February 2024. The continually increasing completion data and slow progress has been very frustrating to nearby residents.
