Mira Mesa is not holding a Veterans Day ceremony this year, but the Mira Mesa Senior Center Garden Club and other Senior Center volunteers are placing a wreath at the Mira Mesa Veterans Memorial Wall and decorating with American flags. The Mira Town Council thanks all veterans for their service, and wishes them, their families, and everyone a happy Veterans Day!

Here’s a lineup of some patriotic celebrations, including drive-thru, in-person and virtual Veterans Day ceremonies.

A number of traditional Veterans Day parades and ceremonies that have drawn crowds throughout San Diego County to honor service members in past years have turned into virtual events this year in response to the pandemic.
Here’s a lineup of some patriotic celebrations hosted by local groups. Folks can tune into many of the events online. So if your community is not holding its usual Veterans Day ceremony, you can attend another one virtually. For drive-thru or in-person events, double-check the event website for COVID safety measures and event updates.
Virtual San Diego Veterans Day Ceremony & Celebration
Virtual 34th annual San Diego Veterans Day Ceremony & Celebration at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, streamed from the Veterans Museum. This year’s theme is “Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of World War II Victories.” The virtual ceremony will include appearances by favorites from the past eight years of the parades and celebrations. Ceremony livestreamed from Mt. Soledad
A Veterans Day ceremony will be livestreamed from Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial from 11 a.m. to noon Sunday, Nov. 15, in conjunction with Honor Flight San Diego. The virtual celebration will recognize the 75th anniversary of the official ending of World War II in 1945. No spectators will be allowed on site because of COVID restrictions. Veterans Day Boat Parade
The Fleet Week Veterans Day Boat Parade starts at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, from Shelter Island and will pass Harbor Island, the Embarcadero, the USS Midway and Seaport Village. Highlights include vintage plane flyovers, live Coast Guard demos and other patriotic activities. The event will be livestreamed on the Fleet Week website at fleetweeksandiego.org.
Documentary pays tribute to female patriots
A free Veterans Day online screening of the documentary “Unsung Heroes: The Story of America’s Female Patriots” will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, hosted by local nonprofit Foundation for Women Warriors. Veterans Day events on USS Midway
The Fleet Week San Diego Veterans Day Boat Parade can be viewed from the flight deck of the USS Midway Museum. The parade starts at 10 a.m. and is expected to pass by the Midway at noon. Tickets to the Midway can be purchased at midway.org or at the museum’s ticket booth. Free admission to the Midway on Wednesday, Nov. 11, for active-duty military and veterans and up to two additional family members with current military ID or proof of service presented at the Midway’s ticket booth, open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Other Veterans Day events at the Midway include two aerial skydive demonstrations to the flight deck by the Leap Frogs, the U.S. Navy’s parachute team; a patriotic art exhibit on the hangar deck; and a special episode of “Destination Midway” – a livestreamed webcast presentation by the ship’s historian at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11 (midway.org/destination-midway). The San Diego Blood Bank trailer will be on Navy Pier for donations Wednesday, Nov. 11. Donors will receive one free ticket to the Midway while supplies last. Visit midway.org.
Drive-thru Parade of Honor
Honor Flight San Diego hosts a socially distanced, no-contact drive-thru Parade of Honor for veterans of all eras from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Nov. 11, at National University in the parking lot, 9388 Lightwave Ave.,
Veterans will drive through lanes of well-wishers and at the end of the route, they will receive a care package, that will be placed in their trunk thanks to Honor Flight SD and Operation Gratitude, while supplies last (1,000 packages planned). Operation Dress Code Comedy Show
Operation Dress Code will host a virtual Comedy Show featuring comedian Will C. and Tai Fu Panda from Veterans of Comedy at 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7. The annual Boutique Day for active duty and veterans “shop” for outfits for their transition to civilian life had to be postponed because of COVID. Salute to Military pet adoption events
San Diego Humane Society and Helen Woodward Animal Center will be waiving adoption fees for pets for veterans, active and reserved military, and their dependents on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7-8, thanks to Animals for Armed Forces Foundation. The Humane Society will extend those dates until they reach 150 adoptions. Military ID required. For Helen Woodward there is a $32 microchip fee. Fleet Week Enlisted Golf Tourney

Virtual Veterans Day Memorial Service
Miramar National Cemetery Support Foundation hosts a 20-minute online Veterans Day presentation commemorating the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II and honoring the U.S. Merchant Marine contributions toward victory. The guest speaker is Rear Adm. Jack Buono, superintendent, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. No live service at Miramar National Cemetery this year. The presentation will be available starting Nov. 10 at miramarcemetery.org.
Virtual Marine Corps Birthday Pageant
In honor of the Marine Corps 245th Birthday, Camp Pendleton will host a largely virtual cake-cutting ceremony and Marine Corps Birthday Pageant from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9. After the event, a recording will be posted at facebook.com/MCIWPendletonCA.
Veterans Day Military Review
The Army and Navy Academy Cadets and the Rotary Club of Carlsbad will present a virtual Veterans Day Military Review from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the academy’s stadium for the public to view online. The guest speaker is Rep. Mike Levin, whose 49th Congressional District includes Carlsbad. Highlights include march of the Colors, fly-over salute and presentation of command along with inspection of corps of cadets, presentation of the wreath, taps and Missing Man Formation Flyover. Veterans Day celebration
A joint event attended and conducted by the American Legion Post 416 and VFW Post 5431 is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday with ceremony with excerpts from the Ritual of both organizations, including a reading of “In Flanders Fields,” at Cottonwood Creek Park, corner of Vulcan and Encinitas Boulevard, and at La Colonia Park on Stevens Avenue in Solana Beach. Veterans Day Ceremony
The 14th annual Veterans Day Ceremony hosted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1513 is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Wall of Courage in Grape Day Park. Bring your own chairs; limited seating is available. San Diego County COVID-19 health measures will be in force. The city of Escondido has approved the event barring the county going into the “purple” tier. VFW Post 1513 will be livestreaming the event on Facebook and Instagram (@vfwpost1513) for those who cannot attend in person.

The Poway Veterans Park will celebrate its 10-year anniversary while honoring all U.S. veterans in a virtual celebration at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, on the city’s Facebook page at facebook.com/cityofpoway.
Veterans Day message
The Rancho Bernardo Veterans Memorial Association will not have a Veterans Day ceremony this year at the Rancho Bernardo Veterans Memorial, but will post a Veterans Day message on its website along with information on its “Patriots Walk” plaque program for families to honor their veterans. Mayor to give Veterans Day address
San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones will present a virtual address online Wednesday, Nov. 11, to honor veterans.

Virtual Veterans Day concert
Valley Center-Pauma Schools Music program will present a virtual Veterans Day concert that will be posted on the Valley Center High School webpage, vchs.vcpusd.net, for one week, beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11. The concert features the Advanced Concert Band, Jazz Band and Chorus of Valley Center Middle School and the Marching Band, Jazz Band and Choirs of Valley Center High School singing and playing patriotic and jazz music such as “The American Patrol” and “Armed Forces Tribute-the Pride of America!” Special guests from Kathy Yarush’s second-grade class from Valley Center Primary School will also perform.
